Michael has been performing on stage for most of his life and has many areas of expertise.
Starting in world renowned improv company Rapid Fire Theatre, Michael has always held improv close to his heart. He started his own improv show yegDND: A Dungeons and Dragons Improv show, which has successfully run since 2011 performing every year at the Edmonton International Fringe, Comic Expos in Edmonton and Calgary, and running monthly shows all year round. Michael has also trained in Contact Improv, a dance style that combines movement and balance to manipulate bodies through space and create emotions or narrative feelings.
Michael’s first performance on stage was in Grease the Musical. He trained at Grant MacEwan under Ken Brown, David Horak and Tim Ryan, with voice instruction by Jennifer Spencer, Janice Flower, and the amazing Lary Benson. Michael continued his work in musicals through community theatre and fringe festivals, performing a wide variety of shows from classics like Thoroughly Modern Millie and Annie to more flashy pieces like Cabaret and Chicago. He has also understudied and played minor roles, including vocals at Jubilations Dinner Theatre.
Performing Shakespeare and Chekov are some of the greatest challenges and rewarding experiences an actor can have, especially under a great director. Michael has worked on classical texts and learned to study the depth and intricacies of these roles both at Grant MacEwan and in practical application in the theatre community.
The lifeblood of theatre is the creation of new works. Michael brings his unique viewpoint and creative spirit to every new work he is involved in. Helping to bring to life an idea and creative concepts are a specialty. He brings wealth of experience and an easy to work with attitude to each project.
